Donnarumma Seals €30m Man City Move as Ederson Departs for Fenerbahce in €14m Deal

Manchester City have orchestrated a major goalkeeper overhaul, officially announcing Donnarumma’s signing from Paris Saint-Germain for €30 million while simultaneously confirming Ederson’s €14 million departure to Fenerbahce. The Italian international has signed a five-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side, pending international clearance, marking the end of an era as Ederson concludes his trophy-laden eight-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium.

Donnarumma arrives at City with exceptional recent form, having played 47 matches in the 2024-2025 season and helping PSG secure a historic quadruple while earning selection in the Champions League Team of the Season. The 26-year-old will immediately compete with James Trafford for the number one position, with Trafford having started City’s opening three Premier League matches this season after his £27 million summer arrival from Burnley.

Both clubs released coordinated official statements on September 2, with PSG thanking Donnarumma for his four seasons and ten trophies in Paris. Donnarumma expressed his excitement about joining “a world-class squad led by one of football’s greatest managers,” while Ederson reflected on his Manchester City legacy, calling his time there “the most special time” of his life after winning 15 major trophies including six Premier League titles.

Ederson’s departure represents a significant changing of the guard, with the Brazilian having claimed three Premier League Golden Gloves and twice earning selection in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year during his distinguished City career. His €14 million transfer to Fenerbahce provides the Turkish giants with proven elite-level experience as they pursue domestic and European success.

The goalkeeper revolution positions City with intriguing tactical flexibility, though Guardiola’s rotation plans between Donnarumma and Trafford remain unclear. While Donnarumma’s transfer awaits routine international clearance with no specified timeline, the deal represents City’s commitment to maintaining their goalkeeper standards as they pursue continued domestic and Champions League glory in the post-Ederson era.
