AC Milan are exploring a potential move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin as a replacement for Mike Maignan, with the Rossoneri hoping Luka Modric can help convince the Ukrainian to join San Siro if contract talks with their current number one fail.
Milan Target Real Madrid’s Lunin as Maignan Replacement With Modric Influence
Milan remain in negotiations over a contract extension for Maignan, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2025-26 season. Recent reports indicate that Maignan is demanding an annual salary of approximately €8 million, while the Rossoneri are stuck at the €5 million mark and are unlikely to increase their proposal significantly further.
The French goalkeeper will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards, with Juventus, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly interested in securing his services. Milan’s reluctance to meet Maignan’s wage demands has prompted the club to identify potential replacements should he depart on a free transfer.
According to reports from Tuttosport and several Italian outlets, Milan could make a move for Lunin if they lose Maignan. Real Madrid value the Ukrainian shot-stopper at approximately €25 million, with the 25-year-old currently serving as understudy to Thibaut Courtois at the Bernabeu.
Lunin is represented by Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, with whom Milan have successfully negotiated several deals recently. Mendes also represents Rafael Leao, Joao Felix and Pervis Estupinan, giving Milan an established relationship with the influential agent.
Milan will be hoping for assistance from Modric in their pursuit of Lunin, with the Croatian midfielder having spent seven years alongside the goalkeeper at Real Madrid. The reports suggest Modric could prove key in convincing Lunin to move to San Siro next summer if Milan decide to activate their interest in the Ukrainian international.
