Tottenham have completed the signing of Chelsea’s Maika Hamano on loan until the end of the season, with the 21-year-old Japan international seeking regular game time after showing her potential at Stamford Bridge since joining in 2023.

Tottenham Complete Loan Signing of Chelsea’s Maika Hamano Until End of Season

The versatile midfielder can play in a number of positions in midfield and attack but is largely used as a winger by Japan. Hamano has made 45 appearances in total for Chelsea, including seven this season, and was part of the Japan squad at the 2023 Women’s World Cup where she gained valuable international experience.

Hamano expressed her excitement about joining Tottenham after being impressed by their performances this campaign. “Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football and I thought I could develop a lot as a player,” said the Japanese international. She emphasised her commitment to contributing to team success and building connections with her new teammates.

The loan move represents a busy start to the transfer window for Tottenham, with Hamano joining January recruits Matilda Nilden, Hanna Wijk and Signe Gaupset. The club has been active in strengthening their squad during the winter transfer period as they look to build on their performances in the current campaign.

Hamano’s arrival provides Tottenham with additional attacking options and versatility in their forward positions. The Japan international will be looking to make an immediate impact and secure regular playing time that has been limited at Chelsea this season, despite her proven ability at both club and international level.
