Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made his availability clear to INEOS as Manchester United search for an interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s sacking on Monday morning, with the Norwegian expressing his desire to help the club during this difficult period without concern for financial terms.
Solskjaer Indicates Availability For Second Man Utd Stint As Club Contacts Three Candidates
Amorim’s exit followed a string of poor performances as he failed to improve on last season’s difficulties, while the Portuguese manager also clashed with director of football Jason Wilcox over transfer policy. These issues made Amorim’s position untenable, with United now seeking an interim appointment until the summer before pursuing a more established permanent successor.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Solskjaer is waiting for Manchester United to decide on the caretaker manager position, with the former striker keen on returning to Old Trafford. Romano reported that Solskjaer’s message to INEOS emphasized that he doesn’t care about money or contract terms and just wants to be back at Manchester United to help the club in this difficult moment.
Sky Sports confirmed that United have contacted three candidates for the interim role, with Michael Carrick and Solskjaer both spoken to informally about taking charge until the end of the season alongside current caretaker Darren Fletcher. The broadcaster indicated that other candidates will also be approached before any final decision is taken by the club hierarchy.
While United’s current focus remains on finding an interim boss, the club haven’t ruled out making a substantive appointment if they decide the right coach is available. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been mooted as a long-term option, though he remained coy when asked about the vacancy, stating he is Crystal Palace manager and doesn’t talk about any other club.
Romano also reported that former United defender Jonny Evans is ready to return as assistant coach immediately, as previously reported by the BBC. Club legend Fletcher currently remains in temporary charge following Amorim’s departure, but it remains uncertain whether he will be handed the interim role for the remainder of the campaign.
