USMNT legend Clint Dempsey has backed Christian Pulisic to be a difference maker for the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising the AC Milan forward’s ability to step up in crucial moments after his impressive club form this season.

Pulisic enters the World Cup cycle in exceptional form for AC Milan, having scored 10 goals and provided two assists in just 15 matches across all competitions this season. His recent goal in a 3-0 Serie A victory over Hellas Verona highlighted his continued development as a decisive attacking threat for the Italian giants.

Since joining Milan in 2023, the 27-year-old American has been directly involved in 50 goals, recording 31 goals and 19 assists during his time at the club. Only Lautaro Martinez has posted more combined goal contributions in Serie A during that period, underlining Pulisic’s consistent impact at the highest level of European football.

Speaking to FrontRowSoccer about Pulisic’s role for the USMNT, Dempsey highlighted the forward’s track record in major tournaments. “In big moments, whether it was World Cup qualifying or we’re playing in World Cup or playing in Copa America, he’s someone that steps up and scores your goals and gets you assists,” the former USMNT striker explained.

Dempsey expressed confidence in Pulisic’s ability to handle the pressure of a home World Cup, stating he is not worried about the Milan star’s performance levels. “I’m not worried about what he’ll be able to do on the pitch as long as he’s healthy,” Dempsey added. “I think he’s one of those difference makers.”

The 2026 World Cup will mark Pulisic’s third appearance at the tournament, with the United States hoping to surpass their 1930 semi-final finish. Dempsey suggested that while Pulisic remains crucial to American hopes, the team’s success will depend on the entire squad staying fit and performing together when the tournament begins.
