Arsenal are reportedly targeting two defensive reinforcements with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi favouring a move to either the Gunners or Liverpool, while the north London club has joined the race for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet alongside Premier League rivals.
Arsenal Enter Race for Marc Guehi and Jeremy Jacquet as January Window Continues
Marc Guehi has emerged as a potential summer target for Arsenal after The Athletic reported that the Crystal Palace defender is interested in joining either the Gunners or Liverpool when his contract expires. The 25-year-old England international previously came close to a £35 million deadline day switch to Liverpool last September, though the move ultimately collapsed before completion.
Athletic journalist Sam Lee revealed on the Let Me Talk podcast that Guehi prefers to remain at Crystal Palace until the summer rather than pursue a January move. Lee stated that sources close to both Manchester City and Palace indicated Guehi wants to stay until the summer and prefers Liverpool and Arsenal as potential destinations over other interested clubs.
Guehi has featured in 20 Premier League matches this season for Crystal Palace and is expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad this summer. The defender’s contract situation makes him an attractive proposition for clubs seeking defensive reinforcements without paying significant transfer fees during the current window.
Arsenal have also joined Liverpool and Chelsea in pursuing Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Football Insider reports. Chelsea have maintained interest in Jacquet for several months, but Arsenal and Liverpool have now entered the competition to sign the highly-rated French defender from Ligue 1.
With three weeks remaining until the February 2 transfer deadline, Arsenal continue to evaluate potential additions to Mikel Arteta’s squad. The Gunners currently hold a six-point lead at the Premier League summit and are preparing for their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea later this week following their 4-1 FA Cup victory over Portsmouth on Sunday.
