Roma have opened negotiations with Aston Villa for Dutch attacker Donyell Malen as the Serie A club seeks to bring the 25-year-old forward to the Italian capital on a loan deal during the January transfer window.

Roma Enter Talks With Aston Villa Over January Loan Move for Donyell Malen

According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, discussions are underway between the two clubs regarding a temporary transfer for the 1999-born player. Roma are working to secure both Aston Villa’s agreement to the loan arrangement and obtain Malen’s personal approval for the potential move to Serie A.

The Dutch international has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Villa Park recently, despite featuring in several FA Cup matches this season. His limited playing time in the Premier League has opened the door for a potential departure, with Roma identifying him as a target to strengthen their attacking options.

A move to Roma would represent Malen’s first experience playing in Italian football after an extensive European career. The versatile forward has previously played in the Netherlands with Ajax and PSV, spent time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, and had spells in England with both Arsenal and his current club Aston Villa.
