AC Milan striker Niclas Fullkrug has broken his toe during Sunday’s match against Fiorentina and faces several weeks on the sidelines after playing just 106 minutes of Serie A football since his January loan move from West Ham United on January 2.
Fullkrug Suffers Broken Toe Setback Just Days After Completing Milan Move
The Germany international sustained the injury towards the end of his full Milan debut against Fiorentina, according to reports from multiple outlets in Italy. Fullkrug had made substitute appearances in Milan’s 1-0 victory away against Cagliari and the 1-1 draw with Genoa at San Siro before starting Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina at the weekend.
The 32-year-old forward became the first new arrival of the Serie A January transfer window when he joined Milan on loan with an option to buy from West Ham United. Fullkrug had been training with the Rossoneri for the week leading up to his move and was officially unveiled on January 2 before making his debut later the same evening against Cagliari.
Sky Sport Italia suggests that the German striker will be unavailable for several weeks due to the toe fracture. Fullkrug is expected to miss Thursday’s Serie A clash away against Como and almost certainly Sunday’s fixture against Lecce as the club awaits further assessment of the injury sustained during his starting debut.
The setback represents another attacking blow for Milan, who could also be without Rafael Leao for the Como match. Santiago Gimenez remains out injured long term, further limiting the club’s forward options during a crucial period of the Serie A season as they navigate multiple competitions.
