Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici will depart the Premier League club following the January transfer window to join Serie A side Fiorentina, with the Italian citing an opportunity to return to his homeland as the primary reason for his decision to leave north London.

The Italian first joined Spurs in the summer of 2021 but departed the club in 2023 after an appeal against a two-and-a-half-year ban for alleged financial irregularities was rejected by Italy’s highest sports court. The ban, dating back to his previous spell at Juventus, resulted in a 30-month suspension from world football’s governing body FIFA that prevented him from working in an official capacity.

Paratici worked as a consultant for Tottenham during his ban period before officially rejoining the club in his sporting director role in October. Reports of his potential return to Italy emerged at the end of 2025, with Spurs manager Thomas Frank confirming the club’s commitment to the Italian, stating: “We’re paying his wage, he’s working very hard.”

In a statement released by Spurs, Paratici expressed his gratitude for his time at the club while explaining his decision. “I have loved my time at the club, however this opportunity, together with the need to be based in my homeland, has led me to this decision,” he said. The move will see him join a Fiorentina side currently sitting 18th in Serie A, with Spurs winger Manor Solomon recently completing a loan move to the Italian club with an option to buy.

Spurs chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, who brought Paratici back to the north London club, emphasized the club’s preparedness for the departure. “Our management structure is designed to be resilient to personnel changes, and it will be business as usual moving forward,” Venkatesham said, indicating that Tottenham have contingency plans in place for the sporting director’s exit after the January transfer window concludes.
