Reports in Italy say Roma are prepared to cut short Kostas Tsimikas’ loan from Liverpool and send the defender back during the January window. Roma are instead targeting Fiorentina wing-back Niccolò Fortini, but an initial €8 million bid has reportedly been rejected, with Fiorentina said to want €15 million. Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini previously addressed Angelino’s ongoing health absence.

Roma look to replace Liverpool loanee Tsimikas with Fiorentina’s Fortini

TMW reported Roma do not intend to keep Kostas Tsimikas for the second half of the campaign and are ready to end the Liverpool loanee’s spell in the Italian capital. Sky Sport Italia also reported last week that a return to Liverpool is a likely outcome if Roma sign a new left wing-back this month, as the club reshapes its options on that flank.

Roma have already bolstered their attack under coach Gian Piero Gasperini, adding Robinio Vaz from Olympique Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa. With those reinforcements in place, the report said Roma’s focus is shifting to other areas of the squad, with the left side of the pitch among the priorities during the window.

Fiorentina’s Niccolò Fortini is described as Roma’s main target, but TMW said Fiorentina turned down an opening €8 million offer. The same report put Fiorentina’s valuation at €15 million. Fortini is also being pursued by Juventus, and it has been reported that he will not extend his contract, which is said to run until June 2027.

Tsimikas has logged 600 minutes in all competitions, making 15 appearances for Roma. The 29-year-old has struggled for playing time even with Angelino’s ongoing health issues. The Spaniard, Roma’s left wing-back, was diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis in October and has not returned to action since, according to the report.

Gasperini, speaking earlier in January, said he could not discuss specifics about Angelino’s situation. “It’s a medical issue on which I musta maintain the utmost confidentiality because it concerns health. It is a health problem,” Gasperini said. “We all hope that he can get everything sorted out and be well, and return to playing.”
