Crystal Palace have been tipped to sell star defender Marc Guehi on the final day of the transfer window, with financial expert Stefan Borson suggesting a £25 million bid would represent a “sweet spot” that could force the Eagles to cash in on their England international centre-back.
Financial Expert Predicts Palace Will Sell Marc Guehi for £25 Million on Deadline Day
The Eagles are facing a high-stakes dilemma as the February 2nd transfer deadline approaches, with the club forced to decide whether to cash in on Guehi or risk losing him for a significantly lower fee later this year. Palace are currently navigating a busy schedule that includes a UEFA Conference League campaign while dealing with the uncertainty surrounding their star defender’s future.
Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson believes the financial logic of a deal may become impossible for Palace to ignore in the final week of January. Speaking to Football Insider, Borson suggested that while Palace would likely reject offers around the £15 million mark, a bid reaching £25 million represents a threshold the club cannot refuse.
Borson explained that Palace would face an impossible choice between keeping Guehi for approximately 15 league games and some Conference League matches or accepting £25 million. He indicated that while the club might resist offers of £15 million and potentially £20 million, the £20-25 million range represents the point where Palace would be forced to accept, despite their ambitions in European competition.
Despite the intense speculation surrounding his future, Guehi has maintained a professional stance throughout the transfer saga. Reports indicate the England international will not attempt to force an exit from Selhurst Park and remains happy to stay at the club until the end of the season if Palace choose to retain his services.
The urgency surrounding Guehi’s situation has been compounded by a defensive crisis at Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola’s side has been rocked by significant injuries to key personnel. Josko Gvardiol is sidelined with a tibial fracture while Ruben Dias is recovering from a hamstring problem, leaving City desperately short of experienced cover at the heart of their defense with John Stones also struggling for consistent fitness.
