Liverpool are set to complete one of their most significant defensive investments with Jérémy Jacquet travelling to Merseyside today for his medical ahead of a £60m move from Stade Rennais. According to Caughtoffside.com.

Liverpool secure Jacquet medical as £60m defensive coup nears completion

Respected journalist David Ornstein confirmed that all parties are working to finalise the deal, with the 20-year-old defender’s medical scheduled to take place imminently. The French centre-back is set to sign a long-term contract until June 2031, with an option for a further one-year extension.

Liverpool will pay an initial £55 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons from the summer of 2026. This payment structure reflects careful financial planning while allowing Rennes to maximise value for one of their most prized assets.

The Reds’ decisive approach proved crucial in beating strong interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea had explored the deal earlier in the window but ultimately pulled back due to internal squad considerations, while United made a late attempt to hijack the transfer.

Liverpool’s advantage lay in early engagement and presenting Jacquet with a clear pathway to first-team involvement. The club outlined a long-term sporting project built around sustained competitiveness domestically and in Europe, which proved decisive in convincing both player and club.

Jacquet’s rise at Rennes has been rapid after breaking into the first team at a young age. The agreement demonstrates Liverpool’s confidence in his potential, viewing him as a cornerstone of their defensive plans for the next decade.
