Man Utd accelerate twin pursuit with £69m Araujo bid as Fernandes pushes for move
Manchester United have reportedly submitted a bid worth £69m for Sporting Lisbon left-back Max Araujo, who can also operate at left-wing. A transfer insider on X with over 700,000 followers revealed the bid details as United accelerate their summer recruitment plans.
The same report claims Mateus Fernandes ‘wants’ to join Manchester United, with his representatives scheduled for a ‘meeting’ with club officials ‘this week’. The West Ham midfielder has emerged as a credible target following his standout performances this season.
The Daily Mail previously reported that United have ‘stepped up talks’ over signing the £70m-rated Fernandes, who has arguably been West Ham’s best player despite their relegation battle. His exclusion from Portugal’s World Cup squad reportedly makes any potential move easier to facilitate.
Interim boss Michael Carrick, set to become permanent manager after securing Champions League qualification, faces the challenge of juggling multiple competitions next season. United are understood to be working to a budget of around £150m to overhaul their midfield engine room.
The Red Devils will inevitably prioritise a midfield overhaul and could sign as many as three players in this department. They may also recruit a left-winger, striker, centre-back and left-back this summer as Carrick prepares for a much tougher campaign ahead.
