Manchester United initiates talks for summer transfer of Barcelona striker Vitor Roque

There are reports indicating that Manchester United is among the clubs interested in securing the services of Barcelona striker Vitor Roque on loan for the upcoming season. The 19-year-old Brazilian talent was signed by Barcelona in January from Athletico Paranaense in a deal worth £34 million.

Roque’s arrival at Barcelona was expedited due to an injury that sidelined Gavi for the season, allowing the young striker to be registered earlier than planned. However, his initial struggles with the first team have prompted Barcelona to consider a loan move for him next season after he made only 13 appearances, with just two of them as a starter, and scored two goals.

Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, acknowledged the challenges Roque has faced, stating, “It’s not easy to come from Brazil, to adapt at 18, to make a difference at Barca.” Xavi emphasized the need for Roque to receive more playing time and build confidence, expressing belief in his potential to have a lasting impact at the club.

Mundo Deportivo has reported that several clubs, including Manchester United, Napoli, Nice, Lyon, Sevilla, and Real Betis, have shown interest in securing Roque on a temporary basis. Despite the external interest, Roque is determined to continue fighting for his place at Barcelona.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Roque comes at a time when the club is facing challenges in their attacking department, with Rasmus Hojlund being their only available center forward for a significant portion of the season. Anthony Martial, who has been sidelined since December, is set to depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Hojlund, a £72 million signing from Atalanta last summer, has managed to score 14 goals in his debut season in English football. However, United is reportedly seeking additional options up top, with Roque emerging as a potential target for the club’s summer transfer plans.

United had previously shown interest in Roque before his move to Barcelona, with reports indicating that they made a late offer last July when Barcelona had initially agreed on his transfer. Now, as talks of a potential loan move for Roque surface, it remains to be seen if Manchester United can secure the promising striker’s services for the upcoming season.
