Nottingham Forest are set to lodge an official complaint with PGMOL following James Tarkowski’s unpunished shoulder barge on Dan Ndoye during Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, with club officials believing the incident warranted a red card for violent conduct.

Forest Set to File PGMOL Complaint Over Tarkowski’s Unpunished Challenge

The controversial incident occurred in the 11th minute when Everton defender Tarkowski barged Switzerland international Ndoye from behind, causing the Forest winger to fall to the ground.

Referee Chris Kavanagh missed the off-the-ball clash, while VAR official James Bell deemed the challenge insufficient to warrant intervention or a red card.

Forest’s hierarchy remain convinced that Tarkowski’s actions constituted violent conduct and merited dismissal, particularly given the timing when Everton led just 1-0.

The club believe the early sending-off could have significantly altered the outcome of the match, which eventually saw Thierno Barry score his first Everton goal in a comprehensive victory that lifted the Toffees to fifth place.

Premier League regulations prevent VAR intervention for incidents deemed worthy of only a yellow card, leaving Forest frustrated by the lack of punishment.

The club’s officials argue that similar challenges have resulted in red cards this season, highlighting inconsistency in officiating standards and decision-making processes during crucial moments.

Even Everton manager Sean Dyche acknowledged his defender’s fortune after the match, stating that Tarkowski was “amazed” to escape punishment.

The former Burnley boss noted the contrast with recent disciplinary decisions, suggesting players receive cards for minimal contact while more serious incidents go unpunished.

Forest’s complaint to PGMOL will focus on the inconsistent application of violent conduct rules and the impact of such decisions on match outcomes.

The club hope their formal protest will prompt a review of VAR protocols and ensure similar incidents receive appropriate punishment in future Premier League fixtures.
