Mohamed Salah has given the green light to join Fenerbahce this summer, choosing European competition over significantly more lucrative Saudi Pro League offers. The Liverpool forward is prioritising sporting ambition as his Anfield departure approaches. According to Football365.com.

Salah chooses European ambition over Saudi riches in surprise Fenerbahce switch

Journalist Mark Brus reports for Caught Offside that Fenerbahce have obtained the green light from Salah after making an informal offer. The Turkish giants represent a surprise destination for the 33-year-old, who had been widely expected to secure a move to Saudi Arabia.

Three key factors are driving Salah towards the Turkish club rather than the Saudi Pro League. The forward wants to continue with an ambitious sporting project and is really keen to continue playing at the highest level, whilst also being satisfied with Fenerbahce’s proposed salary package.

Saudi clubs remain ready to offer Salah a staggering $30m per year plus a $20m signing-on bonus, but the Egyptian appears prepared to accept significantly less to remain in European football. Sources indicate he would accept a salary in the region of €12-13m annually to keep playing in Europe.

Martinez reveals emotional transfer turmoil amid Man Utd links

Liverpool confirmed earlier this year that Salah will leave on a free transfer this summer after his contract expires. Last season saw him arguably become the Premier League’s best player as Liverpool won their 20th title, earning him a two-year extension until 2027.

However, this campaign has proved dramatically different for both Salah and Liverpool, with the forward among key players who have declined significantly. He has spoken out against head coach Arne Slot on two occasions this season, calling for change after Friday’s 4-2 loss against Aston Villa.
