West Ham have signed winger Adama Traore from Fulham in a deal that could rise to £2 million. The transfer is worth an initial £1m and includes add-ons, with the contract running until the end of the season and an option for a further year.
Traore, 30, moves from west to east London and reunites with West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who managed him at Wolves. Capped eight times by Spain, Traore made two Premier League starts for Fulham this season and was not involved in their 2-1 home win against Brighton on Saturday.
“I’m so happy to be here, so happy to help the team the maximum I can and show my quality,” Traore said. He added that his mentality is “always to do better” and that he loves challenges, saying West Ham will take it “game by game” while trying to do their best.
Traore’s final appearance for Fulham came in a 3-1 win against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on 10 January. He started his career at Barcelona and has had spells at Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Wolves before joining Fulham in 2023 on a free transfer.
West Ham have been among the most active teams in January, signing forwards Pablo Felipe from Gil Vicente for £20m and Taty Castellanos from Lazio for £25.2m. They are also in talks to sell Lucas Paqueta to Flamengo, having already sold Guido Rodriguez to Valencia and Luis Guilherme to Sporting, while Niclas Fullkrug has joined AC Milan on loan. West Ham are in the relegation zone on 20 points, five off safety despite winning their last two league matches, with 15 fixtures left to play.
