Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has made Champions League football a priority for his next move as PSG, Manchester United and Liverpool continue monitoring the 21-year-old England international. Crystal Palace are exploring a contract extension through 2027 but recognise keeping Wharton long-term could prove challenging given the significant interest from top European clubs.

Adam Wharton Sets Champions League Demand as PSG Join Race for Palace Star

Manchester United have identified Wharton as their top transfer target for the 2026 summer window, though their chances of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition under Ruben Amorim appear slim. PSG are expected to target Premier League midfielders as they look to reinforce their squad, with the French club offering regular Champions League participation under Luis Enrique that could appeal to Wharton’s ambitions.

Wharton’s agent James Featherstone has confirmed his client is eager to compete at the highest level, with the midfielder’s desire for Champions League football potentially influencing his decision. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are all tracking Wharton’s development closely alongside Manchester United, while overseas interest is expected to be significant from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in addition to PSG.

TEAMtalk’s Steve Pearson suggested that while Liverpool might offer immediate success, Manchester United could provide better long-term development opportunities for the 21-year-old. Pearson argued that Wharton “must play 90 minutes, week in, week out” to continue his rapid development from Premier League star to world-class superstar, which “cannot happen at Anfield, given the presence of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.”

Crystal Palace face a challenging task keeping hold of their prized asset, with European clubs already mapping out potential signings despite the 2026 summer transfer window being months away. The competition for Wharton’s signature is expected to be fierce, particularly given his age and potential for further development at the highest level of European football.
