Genoa are intensifying their pursuit of Roma midfielder Niccolò Pisilli ahead of the January transfer window, with the Serie A club pushing both the Giallorossi and the player’s representatives for a loan deal after the 20-year-old has managed just 47 minutes of league action this season.
Genoa Intensify January Pursuit of Roma Midfielder Niccolò Pisilli
The 2004-born midfielder has struggled for regular playing time at Roma this season despite receiving praise from Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, prompting initial discussions about his future as the January transfer window approaches. Genoa have emerged as the most interested club and are reportedly pushing both Roma and Pisilli’s entourage to secure a deal, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Pisilli’s limited opportunities come despite being handed his first start by former Roma coach Daniele De Rossi in September 2024 against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. De Rossi, who specifically selected the young midfielder for that crucial fixture, now finds himself at Genoa and remains keen on working with Pisilli again after their previous collaboration in the capital.
The situation could be resolved within the next two weeks, with December 29th emerging as a significant date when Genoa visit the Olimpico to face Roma in their final match of 2025. The fixture will mark De Rossi’s return to Rome as an opponent and could provide the perfect opportunity for both clubs to discuss Pisilli’s future in greater detail during face-to-face negotiations.
Roma have made their position clear regarding any potential deal, stating that Pisilli is not considered surplus to requirements and they have no intention of selling him permanently. The club prefers a loan arrangement that would allow the midfielder to gain valuable playing time and continue his development while maintaining control over his long-term future, particularly given that he renewed his contract just a few months ago.
