Northampton Town goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons has signed a new contract to run until the end of next season, with an option for a further 12 months. The 31-year-old has made 20 appearances since joining the League One club last summer and has kept seven clean sheets this season.
Ross Fitzsimons Commits Future to Northampton Town With New Contract Extension
The goalkeeper joined Northampton last summer following spells at Chesterfield and Scunthorpe United, quickly establishing himself as the club’s first-choice keeper. Fitzsimons began his career at Crystal Palace and his previous clubs also include Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County during a well-travelled career across the English football pyramid.
Manager Kevin Nolan praised the goalkeeper’s impact both on and off the pitch since his arrival at Sixfields Stadium. “The quality of Ross’s performances speak for themselves and he has made a big impression here, both on and off the field,” Nolan said following the contract announcement on Friday.
The Northampton boss emphasised the importance of securing Fitzsimons’ services as part of the club’s strategic planning for the future. “We were keen to extend his time with us, and to secure his services for next season as part of our forward planning and we are pleased that has now been done,” Nolan confirmed.
Northampton are at home to Walsall in the EFL Trophy in their next game on Wednesday evening, with Fitzsimons expected to continue between the posts as the Cobblers look to progress in the competition under Nolan’s management.
