Uncertainty is growing around Julián Álvarez’s future at Atlético Madrid, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, as several major European clubs check on the Argentine’s availability. Barcelona have been monitoring the 25-year-old for months and see him as a long-term attacking investment, but acknowledge negotiations would be difficult. Atlético are expected to value Álvarez well above €80-90 million.

Barcelona keep tabs on Julián Álvarez as Atlético weigh stance on bids

Julián Álvarez’s future at Atlético Madrid has been thrown into doubt, with journalist Matteo Moretto reporting a growing sense of uncertainty around the Argentine forward. Álvarez, 25, has become one of the best strikers in the world and is attracting interest from several major European clubs. Barcelona are among those monitoring his situation closely and have done so for several months.

Álvarez joined Atlético from Manchester City and has been given greater opportunity and a leading role in the attack. Since arriving in Madrid, he has developed beyond the role he held at City, emerging as a more complete attacker. The report says he can operate as a No. 9, a second striker or as a wide forward, while also fitting Diego Simeone’s aggressive defensive structure with his pressing.

Barcelona view Álvarez as an ideal long-term attacking investment and a player who matches both the tactical profile and age bracket the board is targeting as part of a medium-term rebuild. The Catalan club are expected to reshape parts of their frontline in the summer and are ready to replace Robert Lewandowski in their starting line-up as he reaches the latter stages of his career.

Even so, Barcelona executives recognise a deal would be extremely difficult. Atlético’s expected valuation is understood to be well above €80-90 million, reflecting Álvarez’s importance to Simeone’s sporting project. Barcelona are still prepared to explore the situation, especially if there is any signal from the player’s side or Atlético that negotiations could be entertained.

Sources close to Atlético suggest the club do not plan on selling Álvarez unless a massive offer arrives or the player expresses a desire to leave. Atlético consider him a foundational piece in their next cycle, particularly as they look to transition toward a more dynamic and modern attacking line.
