Liverpool are unlikely to sell Andy Robertson to Tottenham in the January transfer window after considering an offer worth £5m for the left-back, who is out of contract in the summer. A move had been agreed in principle last week but depended on Liverpool recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma, a step the club has not been able to complete so far.

Liverpool pull back from Robertson-to-Spurs deal after £5m offer considered

Liverpool are unlikely to let Andy Robertson join Tottenham as things stand, despite Spurs lodging an offer worth £5m for the Scotland captain. Robertson is out of contract in the summer, but Liverpool have determined they are not in a position to proceed with the transfer during the current window, according to the report.

The clubs had reached an agreement in principle last week that Robertson could move after Liverpool’s final Champions League league match on Wednesday. However, any deal was also dependent on Liverpool being able to recall left-back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, and Liverpool have not been able to do that so far.

Liverpool’s defensive situation has also been affected by injury, with Joe Gomez forced off in the first half of Saturday’s Premier League defeat at Bournemouth. It is understood Robertson was not pushing for a move, although he is keen to play more regularly before this summer’s World Cup.

Robertson, 31, joined Liverpool from Hull City for £8m in 2017 during Jurgen Klopp’s reign and has made 364 appearances for the club, winning nine trophies. He is no longer first-choice left-back under Arne Slot, with Milos Kerkez preferred, and Robertson has started four Premier League matches this season.

After the Bournemouth match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said he wants Robertson to stay, calling him a “very important” member of the squad. The report added that Liverpool are sixth in the league, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, the transfer window closes on 2 February, and the club will face Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup next month.
