Inter confirm Barella thigh strain; midfielder to be assessed day by day
Inter said Wednesday that Nicolò Barella suffered a “mild strain of the psoas muscle in his right thigh” after the midfielder underwent medical tests. The club added that Barella’s condition will be evaluated “day by day” as he begins recovery from the problem.
The 28-year-old will not be available for Inter’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, which the club described as its final fixture in the league phase. Inter did not provide a specific return date in its update beyond the day-by-day assessment.
TMW reported Barella is likely to be ruled out of Inter’s next Serie A match against Cremonese as well, but could return to action next week against Sassuolo. Inter are also scheduled to host Juventus at San Siro on Feb. 15, according to the report.
Barella has scored one goal and provided six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season. He joined Inter in the summer of 2020, and his contract with the Serie A club runs through June 2029.
