Birmingham Make Carlos Vicente Fifth January Signing on 3½-Year Deal

Birmingham City have signed Spanish winger Carlos Vicente from Deportivo Alaves for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract at St Andrew’s, with the club confirming he is their fifth new arrival of the January transfer window.

Vicente began his career at Real Zaragoza before moving to Alaves from second-tier side Racing Ferrol just over two years ago. He has made 76 appearances in La Liga, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists, according to the figures listed in the announcement.

This season, Vicente played 20 times and scored five goals. The source noted he scored against Real Madrid in Alaves’ 2-1 defeat in December and also found the net in their 2-1 win over Real Betis at the weekend, which proved to be his final appearance for the Spanish club.

Vicente said the move to Birmingham was “really interesting” after hearing about the club’s plans. “When I heard about Birmingham, I was really interested in the project here,” he said, adding that “how much they wanted me” mattered, while describing the switch as “a big challenge” and saying he was motivated to “get the promotion that the team and the city deserve.”

Vicente follows striker August Priske and defender Kai Wagner in signing permanently for Birmingham this month. The club have also added winger Ibrahim Osman and midfielder Jhon Solis on loan as part of their January business.
