The club’s official statement revealed that Klopp will join an illustrious management team for the charity fixture. Sir Kenny Dalglish will lead the side with Klopp as his assistant, whilst club ambassador Ian Rush and Forever Reds chair John Aldridge complete the touchline lineup for the 3pm GMT kick-off.

Since departing Merseyside in May 2024, Klopp has consistently denied speculation linking him with elite management roles. He took up a senior position with Red Bull on 1 January 2025, explaining his need to recharge after nearly 25 years on the touchline, despite recent rumours connecting him with Real Madrid following Xabi Alonso’s dismissal.

The charity match carries significant meaning beyond nostalgia, with 100 percent of proceeds supporting the LFC Foundation’s employability programmes. These initiatives help people across the Liverpool City Region find work, gain qualifications and develop new skills, giving the fixture a serious charitable purpose.

Several Liverpool legends have already confirmed their participation, including Steven Gerrard, Samy Hyypia, Jerzey Dudek and Pepe Reina. More former players are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, ensuring competitive quality despite the charitable nature of the contest.

The fixture against Borussia Dortmund Legends adds poetic significance, reuniting Klopp with the club where he first made his continental reputation. His return comes as Liverpool, now under Arne Slot, continue writing their new chapter after winning the Premier League in 2024-25, though Klopp’s transformative impact still looms large over the modern club.
