Rangers striker search intensifies as title hopes fade

Danny Rohl has refused to rule out further Rangers signings before Monday’s transfer deadline, with mounting pressure to address attacking deficiencies after a goalless draw with Hibernian left them six points behind league leaders Hearts. According to Bbc.com.

Rangers’ January transfer window dilemma deepens after Hibernian stalemate

The frustrating stalemate at Easter Road ended Rangers‘ domestic six-game winning run and prompted former midfielder Andy Halliday to question whether the Ibrox side possess sufficient attacking output to win the Scottish Premiership. Halliday, now at Motherwell, declared that “Rangers lack so much creativity and the penalty-box striker to get the goals required to win the league” following their underwhelming display.

Rohl acknowledged potential movement before the transfer window closes at 23:00 GMT on Monday, telling BBC Scotland that “there could be ins and outs” while expressing trust in the club’s decision-making. However, the German manager insisted he would be content with his current squad, stating “I’ll carry on with my group because they’ve shown big character in the past couple of weeks” if no additions materialise.

Rangers’ attacking struggles were starkly illustrated by their meagre statistics against Hibernian, managing just two shots on target and accumulating an expected goals rating of only 0.53 from eleven efforts. Their starting front three of Youssef Chermiti, Andreas Skov Olsen and Djeidi Gassama combined for merely six touches in the opposition penalty area, highlighting their inability to threaten in dangerous positions.

The club’s goalscoring burden continues to fall disproportionately on defenders, with right-back James Tavernier leading their Premiership scoring charts with six goals, three from penalties. Centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez follows with four goals, while strikers Chermiti, Danilo and Bojan Miovski have managed just three between them, underlining the urgent need for attacking reinforcement.

Rangers have been heavily linked with forwards Ryan Naderi of Hansa Rostock and Southampton’s Cameron Archer as potential solutions to their striking shortage. Rohl remains “very positive” about recent signing Skov Olsen despite the Dane’s subdued performance against Hibernian, hoping the former Club Brugge winger can provide the creativity needed to unlock stubborn defences as he builds match fitness.
