Dalot reveals Carrick’s calm influence behind United’s three-game winning streak
The nine points from three matches have transformed United’s season, with Dalot crediting Carrick’s balanced approach for the team’s improved performances. Speaking on the Inside Carrington podcast, the defender explained how the new coaching setup has managed the uncertainty that typically accompanies managerial changes.
Dalot’s previous experience working with Carrick during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure has proven beneficial during this transition period. “I knew, straight away, that a person would come that is calm and it gives you good energy every time,” the Portuguese international told club legend Denis Irwin.
The defender emphasised how Carrick’s familiarity with high-pressure matches against top opponents immediately showed in his tactical approach. “Playing two difficult games that I’m sure he knows really well, how it is to win against those teams, I think he knew, straight away, what to say to us,” Dalot explained.
Steve Holland’s coaching experience has particularly impressed Dalot, who believes the former England assistant brought exactly the right mentality to the squad. “Steve was in this position a lot of times during his coaching career, so he knew what to say. He knew the right energy to pass to the players,” the defender noted.
Denis Irwin praised Carrick’s immediate impact, highlighting the difficulty of the opening fixtures against Manchester City and Arsenal. The former United defender believes Carrick’s managerial experience at Middlesbrough, combined with his deep understanding of the club, made him an ideal appointment for this crucial period.
