Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was discharged from hospital after a multi-car collision near Trabzon, where he is on loan at Trabzonspor. Club president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed the incident and said there were no problems with the player, whose car was badly damaged after being struck from behind. According to Footballtoday.com.
Onana walks away from Trabzon crash hours after Europa Conference League win
According to the Daily Mail, another vehicle struck the back of Onana’s £100,000 Hongqi E-HS9 at high speed on Yomra Road, pushing it into a car in front. Debris was scattered across the road when emergency services arrived, and images from the scene showed damage to the right side of the goalkeeper’s vehicle.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was taken to hospital for medical checks after the collision and was later discharged. He was reportedly travelling with family members, although there is no confirmation that his wife and son were in the vehicle when the accident happened.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed the incident and gave an update on the goalkeeper’s condition. He said Onana had been involved in a road traffic accident earlier in the evening, before adding: “There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
The crash came just hours after Onana helped Trabzonspor beat Hearts 2-0 in the Europa Conference League. It was his second consecutive clean sheet and his fourth for the Turkish side across his last five games, a run that makes the timing of the incident all the more jarring.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan for £43 million in 2023 but struggled to meet expectations. Costly errors effectively ended his United career, with Senne Lammens replacing him as he was moved to Turkey. He kept just 24 clean sheets in 102 appearances, and his contract expires at the end of next season, with the Red Devils likely to sell him next summer.
