Chelsea remain interested in Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as they plan another defensive addition for 2027. Everton, though, have no intention of making a sale easy, with a contract until 2030 and a reported valuation of around £80million strengthening their hand, while Manchester United and overseas clubs are also interested. Everton’s £80m valuation complicates Chelsea’s Branthwaite interest
Everton’s position is the central obstacle. Branthwaite signed a new contract running until 2030, and Football Insider reports that the Toffees still value him at around £80million. With Manchester United and several overseas clubs also interested, and Liverpool a possible rival, competition could push the figure higher still.
Football Insider says Chelsea are keen admirers and could target him when they next strengthen Xabi Alonso’s defence. Their interest has been reported before: a report in July suggested the Blues saw him as a possible long-term anchor for the back line, citing his age, physical profile and Premier League experience.
Branthwaite has returned to his best after an injury-hit 2025/26 campaign, re-establishing himself as one of Everton’s most important players and earning a return to the England setup. Following one performance this season, David Moyes said “Jarrad was excellent”, called him a really good player and insisted there is “far more to come.”
The case for Chelsea rests on a left-footed defender who is physically imposing, quick enough to cover large spaces and already proven in the Premier League. At 24, he also suits a preference for players who can contribute immediately while still improving.
Yet £80m would be a major commitment for a defender with a recent injury record. If Branthwaite stays fit and keeps performing at this level, Chelsea may eventually decide that his age, experience and upside justify paying a premium.
