Aberdeen add keeper Per Kristian Bratveit after Suman suffers ankle injury
Aberdeen have signed goalkeeper Per Kristian Bratveit on an 18-month contract after the Norway international became available when his contract with Stromsgodset ended last month. The 29-year-old is expected to provide depth in the squad’s goalkeeping department and will act as backup to No. 1 Dimitar Mitov.
The move follows a serious ankle injury to Nick Suman in training, prompting Aberdeen to seek immediate cover. Sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said the club “moved quickly” once the extent of the injury was known, with Bratveit identified as a suitable option after becoming a free agent.
Bratveit came through the academy at hometown club Haugesund and made his first-team debut at 18 in 2014. He went on to play more than 100 times for the Norwegian side before joining Swedish club Djurgardens in 2019, and he earned his only Norway cap in 2020.
His career has included loan spells at FC Groningen and Nimes in France, followed by permanent stints with Valerenga, Aarhus, Odds BK and Stromsgodset. Pfannenstiel described Bratveit as an experienced goalkeeper with senior international experience, adding that he will provide “real competition” as Aberdeen continue to strengthen the squad.
