Arsenal will retain Eberechi Eze despite his disappointing debut campaign, while Riccardo Calafiori could face a summer exit due to persistent injury problems that have limited his availability since joining from Bologna. According to Football365.com.
Arsenal stand by struggling Eze as Calafiori’s injury woes spark exit talk
Despite Eze’s underwhelming performances since his £67.5m move from Crystal Palace, Football Insider reports that Arsenal will not entertain any departure for the England international this summer. The 27-year-old has managed just five goals and three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, with three of those goals coming in a single match.
Arteta reportedly maintains big plans for Eze and sources indicate Arsenal remain adamant he forms a crucial part of their long-term ambitions. The winger had endured a barren run of 15 matches without a goal or assist before contributing two assists in Arsenal’s recent 4-0 victory over Wigan in the FA Cup.
Calafiori’s situation presents a stark contrast, with the Italy international having missed 41 matches for club and country through various injuries since his 2024 arrival. Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown suggests Arsenal are conducting assessments on whether the defender’s injury proneness represents a manageable concern or a fundamental problem.
Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal could look to offload Calafiori if their medical team determines his injury issues cannot be managed effectively. He emphasized that Arteta requires players available every week rather than gambling on fitness, particularly given Arsenal’s multi-competition ambitions across the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
The contrasting approaches reflect Arsenal’s current strong position across all competitions, sitting four points clear in the Premier League title race while progressing in European and domestic cup competitions. Brown noted that Arsenal’s squad depth in Calafiori’s position might make them more willing to consider his departure if injury concerns persist.
