The speculation intensified when Fernandes met one of Amorim’s coaches, Carlos Fernandes, in the wake of Amorim’s sacking, heightening fears among some supporters that the 31-year-old midfielder might be looking for an exit route from the club.
However, sources with an understanding of the situation confirm that despite the upheaval at Manchester United, Fernandes remains committed to the club. The managerial changes led to Darren Fletcher being made interim boss for two games before Michael Carrick took over as caretaker manager for the rest of the season, but the Portuguese international has not been deterred by the instability.
