Casemiro set to leave Manchester United this summer as contract expires

Manchester United said on Thursday that Casemiro will leave the club this summer when his contract expires. The 33-year-old midfielder, described by United as a legendary figure, has spent four seasons at Old Trafford. He has played 146 matches and scored 21 goals during his time with the club, according to the statement released by United’s communications department.

United said Casemiro, the Brazil captain, joined in August 2022 and quickly became a fan favourite. The club highlighted his combative style and his knack for scoring at crucial moments. Casemiro’s total of 21 goals includes strikes in high-profile matches, and United credited him for contributing across competitions during his spell in Manchester.

The club pointed to his role in winning the 2023 Carabao Cup, when he scored a header against Newcastle United. United also said Casemiro won the Emirates FA Cup with the team in 2024. Those honours formed part of the club’s summary of his impact since arriving, underlining his reputation as a serial winner before and during his time at Old Trafford.

Supporters will have the chance to recognise Casemiro’s contribution at United’s final home game of the season, against Nottingham Forest, the club said. In a message included with the announcement, Casemiro said he will carry Manchester United with him throughout his entire life and recalled feeling the passion of Old Trafford from his first day at the stadium.

Casemiro added that it is not time to say goodbye and said there are many more memories to create during the next four months. He said the team still has a lot to fight for together and that his complete focus will remain on giving everything to help the club succeed before his contract comes to an end in the summer.
