Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu remained measured in his assessment despite his team’s commanding 4-0 victory over Como at San Siro, insisting the Nerazzurri could have delivered a superior performance even with the comprehensive scoreline reflecting their dominance on the evening.

Chivu Demands Higher Standards Despite Inter’s Commanding 4-0 Victory Over Como

Speaking to DAZN after the match, Chivu admitted the scoreline did not tell the full story of the evening’s proceedings. “We could have done much better,” he stated, opening his post-game analysis with a reminder that the overall performance still left room for improvement despite securing three crucial points against Cesc Fabregas’s Como side.

The Inter coach praised his team’s intensity but felt they rushed key moments throughout the encounter. “We were a little frantic. We pressed them high and spent a lot of energy, but we still played a real match with quality,” Chivu explained. “We take the three points, they were important.” The Romanian tactician confirmed Inter had specifically prepared for Como’s aggressive high press, even if the execution wasn’t always clean.

Ahead of kick-off, some had billed the match as a personal showdown with Como manager Cesc Fabregas, but Chivu brushed off such suggestions. “Those are headlines for newspapers. What matters to me is the team, trust, our daily work and our objective. The rest is convenient for you, and that’s fine, I understand it,” he said, focusing attention on his squad’s collective objectives rather than individual narratives.

The coach also highlighted the need for patience with new arrivals such as Luis Henrique and Diouf as they adapt to Serie A football. “We need all 22 outfield players, the three goalkeepers, and the U23 boys. Anyone coming from another league needs time to adapt. They’re doing it well thanks to teammates who help them understand what it means to play for Inter,” Chivu explained.

When asked about his jubilant celebration following the fourth goal, Chivu laughed off the moment with characteristic humour. “What did I do? I don’t remember… I’m the usual idiot,” he joked. “I’m happy for the boys. I love this team and this club. I try to give my best with passion and enthusiasm.” The coach’s animated reaction reflected his deep connection to Inter Milan despite maintaining high standards for future performances.
