Liverpool defender Conor Bradley has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic season after suffering a significant knee injury involving damage to bone and ligament during Thursday’s Premier League draw at Arsenal, with the 22-year-old requiring surgery in the coming days.

Conor Bradley Ruled Out for Rest of Season After Suffering Knee Injury at Arsenal

Bradley was forced off during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium after landing awkwardly near the touchline when chasing the ball in stoppage time. The Northern Ireland international left the ground on crutches and wearing a knee brace, with subsequent medical examination revealing the extent of the damage that will keep him sidelined until next season.

The injury is not related to his anterior cruciate ligament but the severity means Bradley will undergo surgery within days. His absence creates a significant problem for manager Arne Slot, as Bradley has been Liverpool’s first choice right-back this season, starting 12 Premier League matches since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s summer departure to Real Madrid.

Bradley’s injury also puts his international future in jeopardy, with the full-back now a major doubt for the World Cup if Northern Ireland qualify for the tournament. He will definitely miss their crucial play-off semi-final against Italy on 26 March, dealing a blow to his country’s qualification hopes.

The incident was overshadowed by controversy when Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli pushed Bradley while he was down injured, attempting to get him off the pitch to allow play to continue. The action sparked a melee between both sets of players, resulting in yellow cards for Martinelli and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.

Slot’s replacement options appear limited, with Joe Gomez available as a defensive option while Dominik Szoboszlai has occasionally filled in at full-back. The more likely solution is Jeremie Frimpong, who has been performing further forward down the right flank in recent weeks but could drop back to cover the defensive position for the remainder of the campaign.
