Matheus Cunha has dismissed viral Manchester United haircut guy Frank Illet as “not cool” while expressing frustration that the stunt overshadows the team’s progress. The Brazilian forward praised Michael Carrick’s influence since replacing Ruben Amorim as manager last month. According to Football365.com.

Cunha brands Man Utd haircut stunt as distraction from team’s real progress

The Brazilian striker expressed clear irritation with Frank Illet’s viral pledge not to cut his hair until United win five consecutive games. Cunha told RomarioTV that the stunt “hides the beauty that could be in the season” and creates unwanted external pressure on the squad.

Wayne Rooney previously criticised Illet for “doing my head in”, and Cunha echoed similar sentiments about the social media phenomenon. The forward emphasised that players prioritise collecting 15 points over satisfying haircut-related expectations, stating: “We don’t see it as cool.”

Illet came close to being forced into a haircut after United’s four-game winning streak ended with a draw against West Ham. Cunha revealed that while teammates occasionally discuss the haircut situation, “it’s not very motivating for us” and distracts from genuine footballing achievements.

The 26-year-old was far more enthusiastic when discussing Michael Carrick’s impact since taking charge at Old Trafford. Cunha described the former United midfielder’s influence as “beautiful”, praising how “everyone takes little parts from him and try to be successful like he was” during his playing career.

Carrick admitted disappointment after Benjamin Sesko’s late equaliser earned West Ham a draw, ending United’s winning run. The manager credited his team’s “spirit” while acknowledging they lacked “sharpness” and “spark” in a challenging away fixture that highlighted the difficulty of maintaining consistency.
