Jonathan David Completes Juventus Move After Turning Down Inter Milan for Project Stability

Jonathan David has officially completed his move to Juventus after turning down Inter Milan and other European giants, signing a five-year contract until June 30, 2030 following his Lille contract expiry. The Canadian striker expressed a strong personal preference for Juventus over Inter Milan, drawn by the project’s stability, guaranteed playing time, and long-term vision under general manager Damien Comolli and coach Igor Tudor.

Juventus moved decisively to secure David’s signature on a free transfer immediately after he became available, completing medicals in Turin and integrating him fully into their plans as the first Canadian player in club history. The 25-year-old rejected lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey to remain in European football, with Barcelona unable to formalize an offer due to financial constraints and their focus on other targets like Nico Williams.

The transfer represents a strategic coup for Juventus, who negotiated agent commissions down from €25 million to approximately €12 million while offering David an annual salary of €6 million plus up to €2 million in bonuses. Inter Milan showed concrete interest but David ultimately favored Juventus’s better balance of competitive opportunity and contract terms, viewing their project as more stable for his career development.

Juventus prioritized David as their primary target to bolster offensive firepower following Dusan Vlahovic’s falling out-of-favor and likely departure, with coach Igor Tudor expected to utilize the prolific striker immediately. David’s arrival comes after a stellar final season at Lille where he recorded 25 goals and 12 assists, providing the goal-scoring depth necessary for Juventus’s ambitions to rebuild and regain domestic and continental dominance.

The signing was confirmed shortly after Juventus’s Club World Cup exit in late August 2025, with the club celebrating the acquisition as a strategic win that highlights David’s qualities as a proven European performer. While his tactical integration under Tudor and impact on squad dynamics regarding Vlahovic’s future remain to be observed, David’s preference for Juventus over Inter Milan and other suitors demonstrates the club’s renewed appeal in the transfer market.
