Diomande’s PSG declaration threatens Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy
The 19-year-old winger has emerged as one of Liverpool’s top targets after a stellar debut season in Germany, where he claimed 12 goals and eight assists alongside the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season award. However, his recent comments suggest PSG may hold a significant advantage in any potential bidding war for his services.
Speaking at a press conference with the Ivory Coast national team, Diomande made his preference abundantly clear. “Paris Saint-Germain is a team I’ve loved since I was little,” he revealed, adding that his father’s support for the French giants has deepened his connection to the club throughout his childhood.
The Leipzig star, who joined the German side last year in a €20 million deal from Spanish club Leganes, expanded on his PSG admiration in a separate interview. “It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs,” he told Telefoot, highlighting the linguistic advantages of a potential French move.
Despite the transfer speculation surrounding his future, Diomande insists his immediate focus remains on Ivory Coast’s World Cup campaign. The team faces Germany, Curacao and Ecuador in Group E, with the young winger determined to avoid distractions during the tournament preparations.
When pressed about potential summer moves, Diomande adopted a diplomatic stance while keeping his options open. “I don’t think I’m thinking about the future or anything else,” he stated, suggesting that club negotiations will determine his next destination once international duties conclude.
