Christian Eriksen Completes Wolfsburg Move After Manchester United Release
Christian Eriksen has officially completed his move to VfL Wolfsburg, signing a two-year contract through 2027 after being released by Manchester United at the end of last season. The Denmark international midfielder joined the Bundesliga club on a free transfer, with the signing confirmed on Wednesday evening around September 10, 2025, ending his summer-long period as a free agent.
The 33-year-old expressed enthusiasm about his first venture into German football, stating: “VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga, I am really looking forward to this new adventure.” Eriksen highlighted the positive discussions with management and was particularly motivated by the presence of several Danish national teammates at Wolfsburg, including Andreas Skov Olsen, Jonas Wind, Jesper Lindstrom, and Joakim Maehle, making the move “particularly attractive.”
Wolfsburg strategically reinforced their midfield by acquiring a player with over 300 Premier League appearances and extensive Champions League experience, with official club channels welcoming the experienced international. The free transfer nature of the deal allowed Wolfsburg to secure Eriksen’s services without paying a transfer fee, though specific wage details remain undisclosed.
Head coach Paul Simonis’ clear vision for the team’s future proved instrumental in convincing Eriksen to join, with the midfielder citing this as a key factor in his decision. Eriksen remained a free agent throughout the summer and preseason period, training with Malmö FF in Sweden before finalizing the Wolfsburg deal, and will wear the number 24 shirt for his new club.
The signing positions Wolfsburg to benefit from Eriksen’s creative playmaking abilities as they aim for stronger Bundesliga performance and possible European qualification. While no injury concerns were reported and Eriksen is expected to be available for competitive matches soon, specific tactical deployment plans and his immediate match readiness remain to be confirmed as he integrates with his new teammates.
