Fabregas hails Sarri as ‘genius’ after Como’s 3-0 win at Lazio
Como stunned Lazio with a 3-0 victory at the Olimpico, delivering an emphatic away performance built on technical quality and attacking intelligence. Martin Baturina played a leading role and Nico Paz struck twice as Fabregas’ side controlled the match and left the home team on the wrong end of a humbling night.
Speaking after the match, Fabregas pushed back at the idea that the result was down to spending power, saying the performance reflected shared footballing principles. “I’m glad you mentioned that it’s not just about how much we’ve spent,” he said, as he framed Como’s progress around how players develop and how they interpret the game together.
Fabregas said he values creativity over strict patterns, adding: “What matters is how much the players earn and how they grow. When players understand football in the same way, the game belongs to them, not the coach. I don’t believe in robotic football.” He pointed to Perrone, Da Cunha, Caqueret, Nico Paz and Baturina as players who thrive because of that freedom and understanding of space.
The former Arsenal midfielder also reserved special praise for Sarri, calling him “a genius” and crediting the Lazio coach’s influence. Fabregas said Sarri proved himself “in Italy and in England with us at Chelsea,” adding that he is “always happy” to see him and still uses many of the ideas Sarri taught him.
Fabregas said the victory carried extra weight because of how it followed a recent disappointment. “Losing to Milan and then reacting four days later against a strong team is not easy,” he said. “That’s why this result means so much.”
