Forest’s John Victor out for season; club in talks for Wolves’ Jose Sa

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper John Victor has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, sources have told BBC Sport. The 29-year-old was hurt against Aston Villa earlier this month and will not return this term, leaving Forest short of cover in the position.

Victor came off during Forest’s 3-1 defeat at Villa Park on 3 January after injuring his knee while conceding Villa’s third goal to John McGinn. Forest manager Sean Dyche said earlier this month that Victor had undergone what he described as a minor operation on his knee, adding at the time that the club was unsure of the timescale for his return.

Forest are now in talks to sign Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa before Monday’s transfer deadline, with Angus Gunn the only back-up to Matz Sels. Victor and Sels have shared goalkeeping duties at the City Ground this season, but Victor’s injury has reduced the available options.

Any move for Sa would depend on Wolves being able to line up a replacement, with the Molineux side bottom of the Premier League. Victor joined Forest from Botafogo in the summer and has made nine appearances, including a run of five Premier League matches after replacing Sels before suffering the injury.

Forest have also been without striker Chris Wood since October, with last season’s 20-goal top-scorer having surgery on his knee in December.
