Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is still at risk of losing his job despite being kept on for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. The Telegraph reported the Lewis family owners and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham are considering dismissing the Dane after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United. Tottenham’s hierarchy had wanted patience because of injuries, but the result and reaction changed the mood.
Tottenham’s Thomas Frank still under threat despite Dortmund stay of execution
Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank remains in danger of being sacked even though he has been given a reprieve for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund. According to The Telegraph, the club’s Lewis family owners and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham are weighing whether to dismiss the Dane after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United.
The report said Tottenham’s hierarchy had been inclined to show greater patience with Frank because he has been without many of his best players due to injuries. That stance shifted after a home defeat described as shocking, coming against West Ham, who were labelled relegation-threatened in the report.
The atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turned hostile after Callum Wilson struck a stoppage-time winner for the Hammers. Supporters aimed “sacked in the morning” chants at Frank, underlining the pressure on the 52-year-old despite his team having another major fixture within days.
Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham manager in June and was backed in the summer market, with the club providing funds for Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani. Even with that investment, the report said Spurs have endured an underwhelming campaign, sitting 14th in the Premier League after winning seven of 22 matches.
Tottenham have also gone out of both domestic cups. They exited the Carabao Cup in October and were knocked out of the FA Cup earlier this month after a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. Frank will lead the team against Dortmund, but the report said there is no guarantee he will remain in charge beyond that match.
