Manchester United are internally discussing five main candidates to become the club’s permanent manager next season, with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner currently considered the frontrunner for the Old Trafford position ahead of several other high-profile options.
Oliver Glasner Emerges as Heavy Favourite for Manchester United Manager Role
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has become the leading candidate for the Manchester United job, with Old Trafford chiefs particularly impressed by his work at Selhurst Park. One source described Glasner as “the heavy favourite as things stand,” explaining that United have been impressed with what the Austrian has achieved since taking charge of Palace.
England manager Thomas Tuchel represents another tempting option for United, though his availability remains complicated by international commitments. The German tactician’s focus this summer will be on the World Cup with England, meaning he would not necessarily be available after the tournament and could arrive late to any role at Old Trafford due to his national team duties.
United are also monitoring former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna as potential candidates. However, Maresca appears more likely to join Manchester City, while the club continues to assess all available options without rushing into a final decision on their next permanent appointment.
PSG manager Luis Enrique is not currently being explored as an option by Manchester United, despite reports linking him with the role. The Spanish tactician is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer but appears to have alternative plans, with sources suggesting he may already have something else lined up for his next career move.
Until a permanent appointment is made, talks remain ongoing with both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick over taking the interim manager role until the end of the current season. United are taking their time to evaluate all candidates thoroughly before making their final decision on who will lead the club into the next campaign.
