Manchester City’s Rico Lewis has signed a new five-year contract extension until 2030, with the 20-year-old full-back cementing his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium after making 97 senior appearances since breaking through during City’s treble-winning campaign.

Rico Lewis Commits Long-Term Future to Manchester City with 2030 Extension

Rico Lewis has committed his long-term future to Manchester City by signing a comprehensive five-year contract extension that will keep the versatile defender at the Etihad Stadium until 2030. The official announcement extends Lewis’s previous deal by two additional years, with the academy graduate expressing his deep emotional connection to the club where he has developed since joining at age eight.

The new agreement includes an optional 12-month extension that could potentially extend Lewis’s stay until 2031, providing Manchester City with additional flexibility in their long-term planning. Lewis has established himself as a crucial squad member since his breakthrough during the 2022/23 treble-winning season, accumulating 97 senior appearances across all competitions while contributing five goals and demonstrating remarkable versatility in both full-back and midfield positions.

Speaking about his contract extension, Lewis emphasized his profound attachment to the club, stating: “Man City mean everything to me… to be able to stay longer makes me incredibly happy.” The England youth international has already helped secure seven senior trophies during his brief but impactful career, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Community Shield, while maintaining an impressive 91.5% passing accuracy across 61 Premier League appearances.

The contract extension effectively ends speculation linking Lewis with a potential move to Nottingham Forest, with the defender having previously insisted during the transfer window that he wanted to remain at Manchester City. His commitment reflects the club’s successful strategy of developing and retaining academy graduates, while Lewis expressed particular enthusiasm about continuing his development under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.

While the contract terms secure Lewis’s immediate future, financial details including wages and bonuses remain undisclosed. The timing of this extension, announced well ahead of his previous contract’s June 2028 expiry, demonstrates Manchester City’s proactive approach to securing their key assets and maintaining squad stability for their continued domestic and European ambitions.
