Manchester United Prepare £87m Federico Valverde Package Including Kobbie Mainoo for Summer 2026

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a significant €100 million (£87m-£100m) offer for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde ahead of the summer 2026 transfer window, as the club targets a major midfield overhaul. Reports suggest the deal could potentially include 20-year-old Kobbie Mainoo as part of the package, with Real Madrid showing interest in the England international who has struggled for regular game time at Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2029, has established himself as a key player for Los Blancos with over 328 appearances, contributing 32 goals and 32 assists throughout his tenure. In his most recent campaign, Valverde demonstrated his versatility and impact with 11 goals and 8 assists across 65 games, prompting Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso to compare him to Steven Gerrard for his stamina and box-to-box capabilities.

Manchester United’s pursuit comes after a relatively quiet 2025 summer window where they rejected several midfield targets, notably failing to secure Carlos Baleba due to Brighton’s high valuation demands. Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly advocating strongly for the signing as part of his long-term vision to transform United’s midfield, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro adding urgency to the rebuild.

Real Madrid’s position appears complex, as while Valverde remains a crucial squad member, the club could be tempted by the substantial fee to fund other transfer targets including Adam Warden. The inclusion of Mainoo in any potential deal adds an intriguing dimension, given Madrid’s reported interest in the young midfielder who has found opportunities limited under Amorim’s system this season.

However, significant obstacles remain for any potential transfer, with no official statements from either club confirming negotiations and Valverde’s long-term contract providing Madrid with substantial leverage. United’s ability to secure Champions League qualification could prove crucial in attracting the 27-year-old, while alternative targets including Ruben Neves remain under consideration should the ambitious pursuit of Valverde prove unsuccessful.
