Livingston chairman Calvin Ford has publicly backed manager David Martindale despite the club’s position at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership with just nine points from 20 matches, stating the 51-year-old has his full support and will continue leading the West Lothian outfit.
Livingston Chairman Ford Gives Martindale Full Backing Despite Bottom Position
The West Lothian club have endured a difficult campaign with their only league victory coming almost five months ago in a 3-1 home win against Falkirk. Martindale’s side have lost their past four games but showed encouraging signs in their most recent outing, pushing league leaders Hearts close at Tynecastle despite ultimately losing the match.
Ford, who became majority shareholder and chairman in May 2025, praised Martindale’s passion and loyalty during their first meeting when the American was considering his investment in the club. The chairman highlighted the manager’s positive attitude throughout the season’s challenges, describing him as a leader who deserves continued support alongside his coaching staff.
The American owner acknowledged that results have fallen below expectations this season and apologized to supporters for the team’s poor record. Ford emphasized his belief in continuity rather than making impulsive decisions, stating he did not invest in Livingston to hire and fire managers, having witnessed the toxicity such approaches can create within clubs and communities.
Livingston face St Mirren at home on Tuesday in a crucial fixture that could see them move within one point of 11th-placed Kilmarnock with a victory. Martindale has been in charge since December 2020, having previously worked for the club in various other roles before taking over as manager over five years ago.
