Kylian Mbappe has shown positive signs in his recovery from injury but Real Madrid have ruled the French forward out of Thursday’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid. The club refuse to take risks with their star signing despite his improved condition and individual training progress.
Mbappe Ruled Out of Atletico Madrid Derby Despite Positive Recovery Signs
The 26-year-old forward trained individually on Monday and reported positive sensations as he continues his rehabilitation from a thigh injury sustained in recent weeks. Miguel Angel Diaz confirmed that Mbappe remains unavailable for the Madrid derby and will not feature in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia, with the club taking a cautious approach to his fitness.
Real Madrid’s medical staff have determined that rushing Mbappe back would be counterproductive, despite contrasting reports about his potential availability for the tournament. The French international is feeling better than at the time of his initial diagnosis but has not reached the fitness levels required for competitive action against Atletico Madrid.
Mbappe wishes to travel with the squad to Saudi Arabia to support his teammates in their pursuit of the season’s first trophy. The forward will only be considered for selection if he feels completely fit and communicates his readiness to the coaching staff, but Real Madrid will not force him to play through any discomfort.
Should Real Madrid progress to the Spanish Super Cup final, Mbappe’s participation remains doubtful according to current assessments. The club’s priority remains his long-term fitness rather than risking further injury for the tournament, with manager Xabi Alonso expected to persist with Gonzalo Garcia following his impressive performance at the weekend.
Dean Huijsen has recovered from his thigh setback and trained normally with the group after missing the recent clash against Real Betis. The defender is expected to be available for selection against Atletico Madrid as Real Madrid aim to reach their first final of the 2025-26 campaign.
