Christian Pulisic is requesting a salary increase from $4.3 million to $5.4 million net per season as Milan continue negotiations over a contract extension until 2030, with the American forward’s wage demands representing the primary obstacle in talks according to Italian reports.

Pulisic’s Salary Request Key Sticking Point in Milan Contract Extension Talks

Milan are deep into negotiations with Pulisic over a long-term extension beyond his current deal that expires in June 2027. While the club can automatically extend his contract to 2028, their real intention is to secure the American until 2030. The 27-year-old currently earns roughly $4.3 million net per season, but his representatives are pushing for a raise to about $5.4 million according to Corriere della Sera.

Pulisic’s recent performances have underlined his importance to Milan’s attacking plans. Despite battling a severe fever that left him “dead in bed,” he traveled to Turin and came off the bench to score a match-defining brace in Milan’s 3-2 comeback victory over Torino. Those goals brought him to 13 league strikes in the 2025 calendar year, the highest total of his club career.

The American forward now leads Milan in goals for the season and sits atop the Serie A scoring charts alongside Lautaro Martinez. He is averaging a goal every 64 minutes in Serie A and one every 61 minutes in all competitions, numbers unmatched in Italy and bettered only by Harry Kane across Europe’s top five leagues. His double against Torino made him just the third Milan player in a decade to score two goals in one league match as a substitute.

Milan remain cautious in negotiations after the failed renewal saga with Mike Maignan, whose uncertain future stands as a warning about allowing cornerstone players to enter the final years of their contracts with unresolved terms. The club plan to finalize Pulisic’s extension soon, recognizing that keeping the American forward is essential to the next era of the Rossoneri given his transformation into their most decisive attacking player.
