Real Madrid are monitoring former Premier League managers Jurgen Klopp and Enzo Maresca as potential managerial targets following their recent appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa as head coach. The Spanish giants view Arbeloa as a temporary solution while planning a high-profile appointment next summer.

Madrid recently made the surprise decision to part ways with Xabi Alonso before appointing Castilla head coach Alvaro Arbeloa as his successor. Previous reports indicate that Arbeloa is viewed only as a makeshift solution, with Los Blancos likely to pursue a high-profile name next summer. Arbeloa’s continuity will be decided between now and the end of the season, but lingering doubts remain about whether he can handle the pressure of managing at this level.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly a big admirer of Klopp and would be ready to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu. The German manager has been out of management since leaving Liverpool in 2024, moving into an executive role last year as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull GmbH. The 58-year-old is regarded as one of the best managers in modern history, known for his revolutionary style of play and success at Dortmund and Liverpool.
Klopp’s reputation as a quality man-manager with Champions League pedigree makes him an ideal candidate to lead a dressing room full of superstars. However, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff recently played down rumors linking Klopp with a return to management, stating that the German is happy with his current role at the energy drink company.
Madrid have identified Maresca as a potential backup option if Klopp’s deal fails to materialize. The Italian manager led Chelsea to the Conference League and Club World Cup titles last season but was recently dismissed following a string of poor results and a complete breakdown in his relationship with the club. Maresca had cultivated a strong dressing room environment focused on unity and showcased tactical versatility before falling victim to Chelsea’s ruthless decision-making process.
