Tottenham manager Thomas Frank remained defiant despite being booed off by his own supporters who chanted ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ following Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to West Ham, with the under-pressure Dane insisting he has backing from the club hierarchy despite eight defeats in 14 matches.
Thomas Frank Defiant After Tottenham Fans Chant ‘You’re Getting Sacked’ Following West Ham Defeat
Callum Wilson’s last-gasp winner for West Ham sparked toxic scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the South Stand called for Frank to go after the latest setback in a dismal run of form. The Danish manager acknowledged the hostile reception but insisted he understood the fans’ frustration while maintaining his focus on supporting the players. Frank said he was the man in charge and accepted that blame would come his way, stating that as long as supporters backed the players he would keep moving forward.
Frank struck a confident tone in his post-match press conference despite Tottenham sitting 14th in the table, 10 points above the drop zone. The manager likened his job to turning a super tanker around and exuded the confidence of someone who has backing from the Spurs hierarchy. This came in a week which saw him handed new midfielder Conor Gallagher and new first-team assistant coach John Heitinga, though neither had the desired effect as Spurs were embarrassed by their relegation-threatened London rivals.
The Tottenham manager referenced chief executive Vinai Venkatesham’s open letter in the matchday programme, saying he took six to eight positive things from it rather than focusing on negatives. Frank described the club as being in a big transition phase with good signs behind the scenes and in some performances, though he acknowledged the emotional nature of losing in the last minute to rivals would create noise that needed to be kept out.
West Ham ended their 10-game winless run against Spurs, becoming the second Premier League team this month to get back to winning ways against Frank’s side after Bournemouth’s 3-2 victory. The defeat followed last Saturday’s FA Cup third round home loss to Aston Villa, making it three straight defeats for Frank and extending Tottenham’s winless start to 2026 despite the manager’s belief that his side are close to something very good.
Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood suggested the only thing saving Frank’s job might be the lack of available candidates to replace him, noting that Spurs cannot win at home and have lost to local rivals who appear doomed at the bottom of the Premier League. Captain Cristian Romero described the situation as a disaster, admitting the team must work hard and stay together with a Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday followed by a crucial Premier League trip to relegation strugglers Burnley.
